Abstract

Background: Contractures are permanent shortening of tissue, causing deformity or distortion of function. Contractures can occur with extensive skin loss and are followed by miofibroblast contractions and collagen deposition.

Case report: A 9-year-old female patient entered the hospital with a complaint that the right thumb was bent and unable to move. This happened since childhood after the patient had burns due to electrical trauma at the age of 14 months. The finger does not feel pain, but the last week the patient complained when writing out blood from the tip of the nail, and the fingertips are difficult to bend.

Action Procedure: Management of contractures in this case is release contracture, by releasing, then fixing joints and applying skin graft

Conclusion: Contractures are permanent shortening of the tissue causing deformity or distortion of function. Contractures can occur with extensive skin loss and are followed by miofibroblast contractions and collagen deposition.
