Abstract

Background : placental retension is a significant cause of maternal mortality and morbidity in all developing countries. This case is a complication in 2 % of all live births with a mortality rate of almost 10 % in rural areas. According to other studies, the incidence of placental retention ranges from 1  2 % live births. In the study placental retention appeared more frequently in younger patients with multiparity. The management for placental retention is bimanual placenta.

Case Report  : Female patient aged 38 years with bleeding from the birth canal, the placenta has not deliveries since the baby was born at 5:30. The patient arrived at torabelo hospital in a bleeding state. Patients giving birth attendants. In addition, pattient complain of dizzines and body weakness, nausea (-), vomiting (-), abdominal pain (+). When patient arrives, it is done manually by the placenta, but part of the placenta is succesful, and the residual placenta is still there.The procedure of action is carried out bimanual placenta. Conclusion  : Placental retention is one of the emergency case that require immediate management, at retention of the placenta, as long as the placenta has not been released, it will nor cause bleeding. If there is a lot of bleeding or if in the past deliveries there is a history of postpartum hemorrhage, preferably the placenta is immediately removed by hand.
