Abstract

Background: Anencephaly is congenital malformation of the central nervous system, which is characterized by the absence of both cerebral hemispheres, cerebellum, spinal cord and pyramidal canal. The number of cases of anencephaly varies, estimated to be between 0.5–2 per 1000 births. In diagnosing anencephaly, amniosynthesis was examined, estriol and ultrasound levels of gestational age 14-16 weeks with AFI> 24 mm accompanied by a defect.

Case Summary: Patient aged 25 years with complaints of abdominal pain a day ago, there was a release of blood, and mucus. An ultrasound examination performed in the third trimester and vaginal delivery is performed.

Conclusion: Anencephaly is a malformation that has a high mortality according to the failure of the closure of the sefic part of the neural tube. The principle of diagnosis is an increase in alpha-fetoprotein levels, estriol levels in maternal urine, and ultrasound examinations since the second trimester.
